Excellence in Education...Every Individual, Every Day!

Welcome to Upson-Lee Primary

Upson-Lee Primary School teachers and staff members work very hard to meet the needs of all students and to ensure they achieve at their highest potential.

We offer an exceptional environment for learning where the youngest of students are encouraged to question, research, imagine, analyze, and discover. Our dedicated and skilled educators create excitement for core curriculum subjects as well as engage students in activities that teach respect for diversity, develop young leadership potential, and foster community and social responsibility.

Upson-Lee Primary School serves students in grades K-2 in a grade-center environment. The school features a fully-automated media center, computer and keyboarding labs, and an in-school television studio where students and staff produce daily news programs that are accessible to classrooms throughout the day via video streaming. All students receive instruction in computers, art, music, and physical education (better known as CAMP) in addition to core subjects. A Challenge program is available for gifted learners in grades 1 and 2.

ULSE is an innovator in utilizing technology to increase student engagement and learning. It was the first school in the U.S. to install Promethean’s ACTIVboard Collaborative Classroom systems in every classroom. In 2017, the school completed a 1:1 computing initiative, providing students with frequent, integral use of technology across the curriculum. Upson-Lee South is accredited by AdvancEd (SACS/CASI) and is Accredited with Quality by the Georgia Accrediting Commission.

The Thomaston-Upson School System has received federal funds from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act and has made the decision to use these funds to purchase school supplies for all PK-12 Thomaston-Upson students for the 2021-22 school year. The school system is aware that the pandemic has created financial hardships for some of our families, and this is one way that we can help. All Thomaston-Upson students will receive their school supplies on the first day of school. (Parents will be responsible for providing a bookbag for their student, if needed.)

Updated COVID-19 Information

1. Student or staff testing positive for COVID-19:
A student or staff member who tests positive for COVID-19 will be required to isolate for 10 days from the onset of symptoms or date of positive test, whichever occurred sooner. If a student or staff member has a note from his/her doctor stating a return to work/school date, then the date noted by the physician will be the official return to work/school date.

2. Staff exposed to a person testing positive for COVID-19:
Staff DO NOT have to quarantine if exposed to COVID-19 as long as they remain symptom-free. They should, however, be vigilant and monitor their health for symptoms of the virus. Although not required, masking is highly encouraged for those who have been exposed to a positive case. The CDC recommends that exposed individuals get tested 3-5 days after exposure to someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 and wear a mask in public indoor settings for 14 days after exposure or until they receive a negative test result.

3. Student exposed to a person testing positive for COVID-19:
Students DO NOT have to quarantine if they are identified as having been in close contact to a person who has tested positive for COVID-19 as long as they remain symptom-free. However, a parent may choose to quarantine a child at home due to close contact/exposure. If a parent makes this choice, the student’s absences will be excused if one of the following criteria is met:

  • The parent/guardian sends a handwritten note with proof that someone in the student’s household has tested positive for COVID-19.
  • The parent sends a doctor’s excuse or DPH notice stating that someone in the household has tested positive for COVID-19.
  • The parent sends a handwritten note stating that they are quarantining their child due to that child being identified by the school as having close contact/exposure to an individual who tested positive for COVID-19.

The documentation for students who have been exposed to a positive case and are being quarantined by parent choice may be sent with the student when he/she returns to school.
