School Meal Prices Will Increase for 2012-2013 At the April 10 Board of Education meeting, the Board voted to raise the meal prices at all T-U cafeterias. This action came as a result of federal school nutrition requirements outlined in the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 (Public Law 111-296). Under the equity in school lunch pricing requirement within this law, school systems participating in the National School Lunch Program must ensure the same level of funding is provided for meals served to students not eligible for free or reduced price meals as for those who are eligible.
All Thomaston-Upson students will pay 25 cents more for lunch next year, and students at the ULPK, ULSE, ULNE, and ULMS will pay 5 cents more for breakfast. The price for breakfast at ULHS will remain the same. Parents and other visitors to the school cafeterias will pay an additional one dollar for breakfast and lunch. The prices for faculty and staff meals will remain the same.
For the 2012-2013 school year, elementary students (PK-5th grade) will pay 75 cents for breakfast and $1.25 for lunch. Middle school students will pay 75 cents for breakfast and $1.50 for lunch. High school students will pay 80 cents for breakfast and $1.75 for lunch. Faculty and staff will pay $1.50 for breakfast and $2.50 for lunch. Parents and other school visitors will pay $2.50 for breakfast and $3.50 for lunch.
